About The Event
Show overview
In the gritty industrial heart of Wigan, 1973, Power Cut follows a group of resilient women tackling hardship, love, and betrayal in a community teetering on the edge. With their husbands (factory workers) mired in a bitter strike, money runs thin, and tempers flare. To make ends meet, the women join The Lantern, a new restaurant run by the flamboyant Valentino, who cherishes his spirited waitress. But storm clouds gather; Paddy, the belligerent Irish chef, locks horns with the women, while their husbands resent their newfound freedom.
Tensions peak when Lynne, a waitress, sparks a scandalous affair with Bill, the Union Convenor and husband Marjorie, the town's steadfast shopkeeper. Striker Alan fuels the fire, suspecting Bill is dragging out the strike for power, not principle. Loyalties crack, secrets tumble, and laughter mingles with heartache in this comedic yet poignant tale.
